چکیده

By presenting oriented Gabor patches either monocularly or binocularly, we dissociated retinal orientation from perceived tilt and perceived slant. After adapting to binocular patches, with zero apparent tilt and non-zero slant, small tilt after-effects (TAEs) and large slant after-effects (SAE) were measured. Adapting to monocular patches with non-zero tilt and zero slant produced large TAEs and smaller SAEs. This pattern of results suggests that a common, low-level adaptation to monocular orientation is involved in slant and tilt after-effects. However, the incomplete transfer between slant and tilt makes it clear that higher-level adaptation is also involved, perhaps at the level of surface representation. 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd. Innovative Machine Vision Technique for 2D/3D Complex and Irregular Surfaces Modelling

This study propose and demonstrates a novel technique incorporating multilayer perceptron (MLP) neural networks for feature extraction with Photometric stereo based image capture techniques for the analysis of complex and irregular 2D profiles and 3D surfaces. In order to develop the method and to ensure that it is capable of modelling non-axisymmetric and complex 2D/3D profiles, the network wa...

Obtaining malignant melanoma indicators through statistical analysis of 3D skin surface disruptions.

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE It has been observed that disruptions in skin patterns are larger for malignant melanoma (MM) than benign lesions. In order to extend the classification results achieved for 2D skin patterns, this work intends to investigate the feasibility of lesion classification using 3D skin surface texture, in the form of surface normals acquired from a previously built six-light photome...

Surface interpolation and 3D relatability.

Although the role of surface-level processes has been demonstrated, visual interpolation models often emphasize contour relationships. We report two experiments on geometric constraints governing 3D interpolation between surface patches without visible edges. Observers were asked to classify pairs of planar patches specified by random dot disparities and visible through circular apertures (alig...

Estimating 3D tilt from local image cues in natural scenes

Estimating three-dimensional (3D) surface orientation (slant and tilt) is an important first step toward estimating 3D shape. Here, we examine how three local image cues from the same location (disparity gradient, luminance gradient, and dominant texture orientation) should be combined to estimate 3D tilt in natural scenes. We collected a database of natural stereoscopic images with precisely c...
